Take part in this historical re-creation – making and then baking traditional sweet bread in a wood-fired oven called a forno, the type used by Portuguese immigrants who came to Hawaii in the 1800’s. Description:
The public is invited to a nonpartisan, moderated Gubernatorial Candidate Forum, Thursday, August 26 at Kealakehe High School Cafeteria. The forum begins promptly at 6pm and will conclude at 8pm. The evening begins at 5pm with food sales - chili & rice, with a vegetarian option, from Tante's Restaurant, as a benefit for Rotary Sunrise and Kealakehe High Culinary Program. Please come early to support the food sales! Candidates confirmed to participate include Democrats Neil Abercrombie and Mufi Hannemann, Republican John Carroll, Nonpartisan Tony Clapes, and Free Energy Party's Daniel Cunningham. The moderator will be Sherry Bracken, news reporter for Hawaii Public Radio and host of the LAVA 105.3 fm and KKOA 107.7 fm weekly broadcast, Island Issues. The moderator will pose all questions, and candidates will have a set amount of time in which to answer. Submit questions in advance to sherryb@lava105.com or by fax to 769-5050, or at the forum. Supporters of all candidates are welcome, but there will be no sign waving allowed on the Kealakehe High School campus or inside the forum. The forum will also air live on LAVA 105.3 fm radio around Hawaii Island, and online at www.lava1053.com.
