[10:00am] 2nd Annual Waimea Solar System Walk
- Description:
- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sat., Aug. 7, 2010. Cosponsored by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and Keck Observatory. Begins at the Sun located at Keck Observatory headquarters. Guests will then travel to Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars . . . all the way to Pluto and the dwarf planets at CFHT. Each planet will have its own station at the proper scaled distance from the Sun, and either a CFHT or Keck astronomer will be on hand at each booth to answer questions and do hands-on activities to explain the walk and the planets to participants. Those enjoying the walk will receive a Solar System passport at the start, and, as they visit each planet, they’ll receive a stamp. A completed passport can be redeemed at the end of the walk for a small reward. Refreshments will also be available. Free and everyone invited.

- Description:
- The Orchestra of the Hawaiian Islands performs “Pacific Moon Under the Stars,” Saturday, August 7, 6:00 PM, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Kamehameha Court. The concert will include Hawaiian and Japanese music, along with works by Gershwin, Grieg, and Vivaldi. Guest conductor will be Hiroaki Ueba (Japan) with American Music Festivals Artistic Director Philip Simmons as guitar soloist.
