GEPPETTO & SON AT ALOHA THEATRE
Description:
The Aloha Performing Arts Company presents Disney's "Geppetto & Son", a musical retelling of the famous Pinocchio story, from the point of view of Geppetto, his creator. This is a family friendly show and is cast mainly with children. From June 18th through July 3rd. The show will play Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets: $10-$15. Bayfront Coffee, Kava & Tea will be the location for the Abled Hawai'i Artists (AHA)' Big Island 3rd Annual Art Festival art opening. This one of a kind silent art show is a silent auction art preview, featuring a diverse selection of art pieces donated by artists with and without disabilities. Description:
This workshop will empower participants to be in control of their own food sources, reduce food budgets, increase consumption of fresher, more nutritious food, decrease the impact of spiraling fuel costs, and help create an abundance of food for sharing or sale. Gardeners, farmers, homeowners, landscapers, teachers, extension professionals and anyone interested in expanding Hawai'i community food self-reliance are welcome to attend. Tim Lloyd, sustainable gardening advocate from Pohoiki, will demonstrate how to easily construct and utilize garden benches made from recycled pallets and how to make Bokashi, which is a type of fertilizer based on EM (Effective Microorganisms) that was originally developed in Japan. Description:
Jennifer Bach will be at the Kailua Kona Public Library to discuss raising bees and the spread of the veroa mite that is killing bees and whole hives. She will also be bringing home grown honey to taste. If you are interested in bees, have a farm or orchard, or would love to become a hobbyist beekeeper; come and learn about the unique world of honeybees and their importance in Hawaii, as well as how all of us can contribute to keeping our honeybee stocks healthy. Description:
Teams of 10 to 20 or more will take turns walking, running or strolling around a designated area between 6 pm, July 11 and 6 am, at Old Airport State Park to benefit the American Cancer Society. Team members will camp out during the 12 overnight hours, enjoying food, music and camaraderie. There will also be a candle lighting ceremony to honor and remember those who lost their battle with cancer.
