  [All day event] King Kamehameha Ho'olaule'a
Description:
There is something for everyone at this year’s FREE King Kamehameha Day Ho‘olaule‘a presented by Halau Kala‘akeakauikawekiu. Visit the craft vendors, master Hawaiian artists, food booths, watch live entertainment, Hula, and so much more. The celebration takes place Saturday, June 12 at Hale Halewai from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. This family-friendly event is FREE and open to the public! Festivities take place during the King Kamehameha Day parade in Kailua Kona. Watch the parade awards ceremony at Hale Halawai following the procession, then stay for performances by the dancers of Halau Kala‘akeakauikawekiu and Pa‘ani Pila. Local craft vendors and master Hawaiian artists will be on hand demonstrating their craft and selling their wares. Outside on the lawn of Hale Halewai kids can visit the “Keiki Korner” and climb a rock wall, play on a train maze or jump in a bouncing castle. Description:
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK) will hold its next Book Sale on Saturday, June 12th from 9 AM to 1 PM on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Library. Proceeds from sales help support the needs of the Kona libraries, with funding that includes educational and entertainment programs, community summer reading programs, visiting authors, magazine subscriptions, CD’s, DVD’s and new book purchases. Come and stock up for your summer reading and as always volunteers are welcome. If you find yourself willing and able, please call 322-0077.

See traditional hula and chant performed outdoors on the hula platform overlooking Kilauea Crater, featuring Halau Hula Ka Makani Hali 'Ala o Puna under the direction of kumu hula Ehulani Stephany, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Hawaiian cultural demonstrations at Volcano Art Center Gallery from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Car pooling recommended.
